Hi, my name is Miriam! I graduated suma cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in biology from Brandeis University and earned a PhD in Neuroscience from Stanford University. I then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in genetics at the University of California San Francisco. Part of what I loved in both undergraduate and graduate school was helping other students succeed. As an undergraduate, I tutored students in organic chemistry and loved the look on my students' faces when they finally "got" a concept. I also really enjoyed giving my students much needed confidence. Sometimes that's all they really needed! As a graduate student, I was a mentor to an undergraduate student. It was so rewarding to see her grow into a highly competent scientist. For the past three years I have been a volunteer tutor with the Healthy Cities tutoring program in San Carlos, CA, specializing in math and science. In my weekly sessions with students, I aided them with their homework and helped explain more general concepts. I also helped give them the confidence they needed to improve their skills. I always tried to explain how what they were learning related to the "real world" and ensure that my sessions had a dose of laughter! I welcome the opportunity to work with your student.
